The Magic Chef 1000 series stove was hugely popular – and widely copied – in its day. Designed by Frank Alvah Parsons in 1929, it remains a design icon and a stunning showpiece in many kitchens today. Despite its popularity, though, I haven’t found a wealth of knowledge about it all in one place. So I’ve taken a lot of what I know and put it all in this video – a little history, a lot of functionality.

The Lorain (Red Wheel) thermostat was a big selling point most famously for Magic Chef, but also for the American Stove Company brands that came before it. These thermostats were the first of their kind and, as usual when it comes to vintage stoves, details about them have been scattered around in different places. This is an attempt to bring those details together in one place so you can use, enjoy and maintain your vintage stove with a Lorain thermostat.
